How volleyball tournaments usually run
Most volleyball tournaments open with pool play: teams are split into pools of four to six and play everyone in their pool, often two sets to 25 or 21. Pool results set the seeds for a single or double elimination bracket in the afternoon, usually played best two out of three.
Many tournaments ask the team that just played, or the team sitting out, to referee the next match on that court. Larger events split the bracket into gold and silver so every team keeps playing after pools.
Formats you can run
Pick the format when you create the tournament. The same registration, payments and live page work with all of them.
- Pool play, then a bracket: the most common setup for team tournaments.
- Straight single or double elimination, with byes handled for any number of teams.
- Gold and silver brackets: a custom bracket lets you choose which teams go in each.
- King of the Beach (Growth plan): players sign up on their own and rotate partners each round.
Game day without the clipboard
Every match has a court and a start time, and the work team is listed with it. Teams check their phone instead of crowding the results board, and scores entered on the court show up for everyone right away.
When matches run long, run auto-assign again: played matches stay put and the rest move to the next open court and time. Send an announcement to every team by email, or by text and push on plans that include them.
